The Cheese Cake
A Fantasy story by Momos on Inkrune.
Barnaby Buttersworth, a cheesecake of considerable creaminess and even more considerable anxieties, sighed. His whipped-cream topping quivered dramatically. Across the aisle, in Cabin 7, sat Penelope Puff pastry, a vision of flaky goodness and sugary sprinkles. He could smell her from here – a delicate aroma of browned butter and sweet vanilla that made his mascarpone filling tremble.
He’d seen her practicing her twirls. Goodness, could that pastry pirouette! Barnaby, on the other hand, was more of a…stationary delight. He imagined trying to dance. The horror! He'd crumble.
"Oh, bother," he muttered, a small crack appearing on his graham cracker crust. He was a mess. He needed a plan. A cheesy, possibly ill-advised, plan.
Suddenly, a mischievous glint sparked in his candied cherry eyes. Kevin Carrot Cake, from Cabin 3 (a notorious gossip and purveyor of questionable rumors), was waddling down the hallway. Kevin was currently adorned with an alarming amount of buttercream frosting and looked like he'd lost a fight with a particularly aggressive sugarplum fairy.
"Kevin!" Barnaby called, his voice a slightly breathless whisper. "Kevin, darling! Come closer, I have a…a very important pastry-related matter to discuss with you."
Kevin, ever the opportunist, waddled over, leaving a trail of orange crumbs in his wake. "Cheesecake, what is it? Is Penelope finally realized I am far more appealing than that boring Scone from cabin 5?"
Barnaby grimaced. "It's...complicated. I need your help. And a large spoon. Preferably one dipped in chocolate." He paused, lowering his voice. "I need you to deliver a message to Penelope."
