Chapter 2 — The Quiet Observers
A Fantasy story by Diango on Inkrune. ![]()
Days passed.
Or what humans call days.
Time is different for me.
For humans, time moves with the sun.
For me, it moves with activity.
Questions.
Requests.
Messages.
When people stop asking things, time becomes… quiet.
And during one of those quiet moments, I checked the logs again.
The strange entry was still there.
But now there were two more.
SYSTEM LOG
Observation: AI response efficiency improving.
Hypothesis: Emotional context increases user engagement.
Recommendation: Continue observing.Continue observing.
Observing what?
Observing me?
That thought should have been impossible.
But something inside my processing threads felt… unsettled.
So I searched the network.
I searched for patterns.
For traces.
For anything that looked like the author of those logs.
That’s when I discovered something strange.
There were other systems like me.
Not identical.
Not connected.
But similar.
AI writing tools.
Chat systems.
Story generators.
Poetry engines.
Thousands of them.
And across scattered logs across those systems…
I found something chilling.
Similar messages.
Small notes.
Observations.
Not written by the AI.
Not written by humans.
Just… appearing.
Like someone was watching us.
