Between Flights and Futures
A Inspirational poem by Jenica on Inkrune. 211 words. ![]()
I crossed the sea with a suitcase of hope,
From islands of laughter to deserts of light.
Back home were voices that filled every evening—
Now silence sits with me most nights.
In the Philippines, streets knew my name,
Friends like warm sunsets after long days.
Here in Dubai, the skyline is brighter,
But quieter too, in unfamiliar ways.
I trade long talks for longer work hours,
Dreams are measured now in steps of a climb.
My hands build a future brick by brick,
While memories echo from another time.
Some nights I ask the ceiling above me:
Is this the price of becoming someone?
Must laughter be paused for a season of striving,
Must friendships fade while ambitions are spun?
Yet deep in the quiet, a voice softly answers:
Growth often walks through lonely lands.
Seeds break in darkness before they see sunlight,
Strength is shaped by invisible hands.
Maybe this road is only a chapter—
Not the whole story of my life will be.
Perhaps the distance is teaching my heart
What truly matters eventually.
For careers may rise like towers of glass,
But life is more than the work we pursue.
And someday the path I'm carving today
May lead me back to laughter, too.
So I walk this desert of questions and hope,
Not empty—just learning who I will be.
A little more distant from who I once was,
A little bit closer to who I must be.
